Coronavirus/COVID-19: update on Croydon Digital Events

Several Croydon Digital Events have been postponed to help stop the spread of coronavirus. Check here to find out what's changed and what's on the horizon for CDS.

Greetings lovely folks of the Croydon Digital Community!  I hope to find you all in good health and good spirits during these unprecedented times.  We at Croydon Digital Service are working hard to keep our engines running and deliver business as usual but at the same time planning ahead to help everyone stay safe.

We’ve had to make some changes to our events calendar in the coming weeks and wanted to give you an update.

We’ve had to press pause on our “Get Online” Digital Skills sessions delivered by RedDoor Managed IT across Croydon Libraries, as well as our one-to-one training to residents in New Addington and the Croydon Schools Tech Roadshow. We’ll get the show back on the road as soon as we can.

Experience Haus Open Evening was originally set for 18 March but will now be on 22 April 2020. This will be an information and networking session for Croydon Tech Companies and people who want to find out more about our upcoming Digital Product Design with UX and UI course in Croydon. The course brings high level digital skills straight from the heart of Shoreditch to the Cronx and can help you take your skills to the next level.  The 10-week evening course is also being postponed and will run from 19 May to 23 July 2020.

Tech UK Partnering and Networking GovTech Event. Originally planned for 23 April, this exciting networking event will be rescheduled as soon as possible. Tech companies will have the opportunity to network and identify business partners with innovative solutions for transforming local public services, from new players to established companies within the Local Government tech market. It’s an opportunity for SMEs to pitch ideas to companies currently providing services to local government, and for large companies to expand the network of SMEs they work with to deliver services in this market.

Regarding our June events, namely the Education Evolution Conference (10 June 2020) and our Smart Cities event (18 June 2020), these are still on track but we will of course keep you updated on any changes.

Croydon Digital Service is here to deliver essential support and services to our residents and staff and we are keeping a close eye on the variety of technology solutions that can help us navigate through the coming weeks. As the pandemic continues there may be things we as a tech community can do – separately or together – to help the most vulnerable people and businesses in Croydon. We’ll follow up with a post soon to kick off some collaboration on that. If in the meantime you have ideas, or want to volunteer to help coordinate this, please email digital@croydon.gov.uk

Stay safe and stay positive!
