Croydon Digital Blog

Croydon digital is a shared space bringing together voices from Croydon businesses, community groups, residents, the council and wider public sector to foster collaboration and – in so doing – to accelerate, celebrate and document the digital revolution at the heart of Croydon’s current regeneration.

Using the Croydon digital blog, you will be able to subscribe and contribute to blog posts, jobs and events.

Key principles

• London Borough of Croydon (LBC) is a data controller registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office. We comply with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 2018 and the Data Protection Act 2018.
• Your data is securely stored within the European Union (EU). However where there will be transfer of data outside of the EU, LBC will adhere to strict security protocols and regulations to protect data.
• Your data will only be retained and used for as long as is necessary. Where data is no longer required, it will be destroyed in line with the relevant destruction, retention and disposal policies and processes available within jetpack
• LBC will take all reasonable measures to ensure that any data you provide will be protected against loss, misuse or hijack.

How we use your data as a subscriber

Data Used: To initiate and process subscriptions, the following information is used: subscriber’s email address and the ID of the post or comment (depending on the specific subscription being processed). In the event of a new subscription being initiated, we also collect some basic server data, including all of the subscribing user’s HTTP request headers, the IP address from which the subscribing user is viewing the page, and the URI which was given in order to access the page (REQUEST_URI and DOCUMENT_URI). This server data used for the exclusive purpose of monitoring and preventing abuse and spam.

Activity Tracked: Functionality cookies are set for a duration of 347 days to remember a visitor’s blog and post subscription choices if, in fact, they have an active subscription.

As a means of identifying the subscriber when contacting them with the relevant information they have opted into receiving.

As a means of contacting the subscriber with relevant information they have opted into receiving.

Date of birth

To confirm that the subscriber is eligible to take part in the workshops and competition. To design workshops for the right age group.

Subscriber’s school

To confirm that the subscriber is a student in the borough of Croydon

How your data is used in Google Analytics

Data Used: Please refer to the appropriate Google Analytics documentation for the specific type of data it collects. For sites running WooCommerce (also owned by Automattic) and this feature simultaneously and having all purchase tracking explicitly enabled, purchase events will send Google Analytics the following information: order number, product id and name, product category, total cost, and quantity of items purchased. Google Analytics does offer IP anonymization, which can be enabled by the site owner.

Activity Tracked: This feature sends page view events (and potentially video play events) over to Google Analytics for consumption. For sites running WooCommerce-powered stores, some additional events are also sent to Google Analytics: shopping cart additions and removals, product listing views and clicks, product detail views, and purchases. Tracking for each specific WooCommerce event needs to be enabled by the site owner.

How the Council uses social media

The Council may monitor public social media accounts relevant to the Council or its work within the borough, which may involve saving messages that were posted publicly, or sent privately addressed to an account managed by the Council.

If the Council is contacted publicly or privately through social media it may respond via the same social media platform. It may also share information sent by social media, including private messages, with necessary staff and partner organisations in order to provide the requested information or service.
