Success! Croydon’s digital inclusion workshops are inspiring new tech users

Tina-Louise from Red Door has an update on the free computer courses for older people run by Red Door and Croydon Council - including new dates announced!

The first sessions of our Digital Inclusion Workshops have taken place across Croydon and the feedback so far has been really positive. We’ve been teaching residents to find information and guiding them on how to stay safe online, so they have the confidence to use the internet securely and effectively.

As part of our workshops, we’ve been helping residents to set up a free email account, teaching them how to access and operate it, and showing them the opportunities available with this useful tool.

My favourite story to share so far: we had a 91-year-old lady come along to our workshop and we taught her how to send an email to her son for the very first time. She was so enthusiastic she then followed it up with an email to her next-door neighbour too – incredible!

Seeing our attendees delight at learning these new skills is amazing. We’ve reassured them that the internet doesn’t need to be scary. It’s a real joy and a pleasure to share our knowledge with those who can use it most.

There are still a few places left on the 2019 workshops below before we break for the festive season, but don’t worry if you can’t make those. Dates are now confirmed for early next year when we’ll be circulating the libraries again. If you know anybody – friends, family or neighbours – that would benefit from these workshops please do let them know.

Our attendees are feeling so confident I’ve been asked several times when we will be running an advanced course!
